(See Daas Torah Part I) Many laymen don’t understand why the Torah greats should decide policy and get to decide what is really considered ‘chodosh’, i. e., a new and dangerous innovation, and what is proper. Hear are some thoughts:

All forms of falsehood have a certain allure and shiny veneer. Artificially, it looks attractive and desirable. Truth stands the test of time. Truth is a reality and therefore exists forever. Conversely, falsehood lacks substance and does not stand the test of time. The ideology sheds its attractive shell and its hollow contents are exposed. It did not stand the test of time. It was exposed as a facade and a failure.

Superficial attractiveness is an illusion, it is not a reality. It only exists in the minds of the viewers. Once their perception is altered, the object is no longer desirable. Why did it eventually lose its desirability? Because it's attraction resulted from external influences; when the circumstances changed, the allure dissipated.

Truth is buried under a mountain of falsehood and the wise man must uncover the proverbial dirt and reveal the treasure that lies dormant within it. Falsehood, conversely, hides its rotten core under a thin layer of truth.
